Morphy Richards 501011 Saute and Soup Soup Maker

The Morphy Richards 501011 Saute and Soup Soup Maker is the latest edition to the Morphy Richards range and looks more like a kettle than a blender.

Its based on the 48822 but now has the ability to saute a small amount of ingredients at he the start of the soup making process.

The exterior design hasn’t changed much from the original soup maker and its just as simple to use. The lid houses the motor and the serrated mixing blades.

The exterior is stainless steel and plastic with a non-stick coating inside.

On the lid you will find two buttons “Mode and Select”, these buttons allow you to choose any one of the four programs which include “Smooth, Chunky, Juice and Blend”

The saute function is a switch on the jugs handle and you can turn it on or off without having a program selected.

The handy saute switch allows you to saute ingredients which could be onions, meat, bacon, garlic, ginger or spices.

Using the saute button saves sauteing your ingredients in a separate pan which in turn saves on washing up.

Once you’ve sauteed your ingredients you can then add your chopped vegetables and stock up to the max fill level (be aware the fill level mark is easy to see on the outside of the jug, but not so easy on the inside).

Once all your ingredients are in the soup maker you need to decide on whether you want your soup smooth or chunky.

Whilst some soup makers have heat and timing settings that allow variations for cooking  the Sauté and Soups programs have been designed to be as easy to use as possible.

If you want smooth soup you just press the smooth button and in 21 minutes plus about 10 minutes to prepare time and you will have delicious hot soup ready to serve straight from the jug.

You will notice that the soup maker goes through a cycle of heating, resting and blending and you can see this on the lids led display.

If on the other hand you want chunky soup you press the chunky button and in 28 minutes (again add the time it takes to prepare your ingredients) your soup will be ready.

If you find that its still to chunky once finished there is a blend button that you can press to make it to the consistency of your choice. This can be a bit hit and miss as you cant actually see into the jug, you will have to take the lid off to check how its doing.

At any time during the cooking (as long as its not blending) you can add more ingredients like herbs, spices or seasoning. Just lift the lid and the soup maker will pause the cooking time, add your ingredients and replace the lid and it will resume cooking.

There is one more button on the led control panel and this is a non heating function for juicing which allows you to create delicious, healthy smoothies and juice drinks in two minutes.

The 1.6 litre capacity is large enough to make up to four servings in one go or for batch cooking.

Its compact in size which makes it easy to store away in your cupboard after use – H32 x W24.5 x D16.3cm.

The Morphy Richards 501011 Saute and Soup Soup Maker has all the benefits of the best selling 48822 but with the added benefit of the saute function.

With this in mind and the fact it’s only costs a few pounds more I’m sure it wont be long before it becomes a best seller itself.
