A slow cooker also known as a crock pot (which is a brand name) is perfect for making soup. These have been around for many years but due the microwave oven they have been overlooked as people preferred to zap their food for quickness and convenience. Lately they have been making a big comeback as people realise there potential to have a home cooked meal with the minimum of fuss.
If your out all day you can prepare everything the night before set the cooker when you leave home in the morning and when you get home at night you food is cooked and piping hot ready to be served. Being cooked slowly means your food will be tender and tasty.
A slow cooker only uses the electricity of a light bulb so although it may be on for many hours its still cheaper than using your conventional oven.
Another benefit is if you have family members who need to eat at separate times the slow cooker will keep the food warm so they can help themselves when their ready.
If your thinking of buying one then decide which size would suit your family and what you will be cooking in it, if you just going to use it for soup and stews then a smaller one would be ample but if your going to use it to its full potential then a large one would be better to go for.
